The Rwanda refugees plan flies in the face of Christian teachings

Reflecting on UK current asylum policy, the Bishop of Durham and RAMP Principal. Paul Butler, writes that the Rwanda deal goes against Christian teachings of welcoming the stranger. In a brief opinion piece in the Independent, he explains that the deal with Rwanda involves discharging our nation’s moral responsibility for vulnerable strangers to other countries, in this way violating Christian values. He also fears that the plan won’t succeed in its stated aim of reducing Channel crossings, and that it will only aggravate the situation of asylum seekers as well as damage the UK international reputation.
