Why we need a ‘humanitarian visa’ for asylum seekers

In an article published on Politics.co.uk in November 2021, RAMP Principal Tim Farron MP calls for the adoption of a system of ‘humanitarian visas’, following the tragic death of 27 asylum seekers attempting to cross the Channel. Tim Farron argues that the introduction of humanitarian visas would offer a compassionate and manageable route to sanctuary for those asylum seekers who have a connection to the UK, while helping reduce small boat channel crossings and undercut smugglers’ business model.
