Stephen Timms MP Tabled Back Back Bench Business Debate On No Recourse To Public Funds

On Thursday the 11th of May, RAMP Principal Sir Stephen Timms MP moved a debate on no recourse to public funds.

Arguments raised included the lack of accurate and current data on how many are subjected to NRPF, how NRPF pushes families into foodbank use and destitution, and also at the unfairness that many with NRPF work and are contributing to the UK economy without receiving anything back.

The house heard contributions from;

  • Bob Blackman - MP for Harrow East

  • Lloyd Russell-Moyle - MP for Brighton, Kemptown

  • Chris Stephens - MP for Glasgow South West

  • Dame Meg Hillier - MP for Hackney South and Shoreditch

  • Kirsty Blackman - MP for Aberdeen North

  • Alison Thewliss - MP for Glasgow Central

  • Sarah Jones - MP for Croydon Central

As a result of the debate, the Minister for Immigration, Robert Jenrick MP, made two commitments. The first, committing to analysing the current guidance for local authorities on NRPF and to ensure it is being applied consistently by local authorities. Secondly, the Minister committed to publishing, as soon as possible, statistics on the number of individuals subject to NRPF to whom the Home Office is granting leave.
